Regulatory Compliance and Advisory

KMK Africa Advocates LLP's Regulatory Compliance and Advisory practice provides businesses, financial institutions, non-governmental organisations, and public sector entities with the legal and practical guidance needed to navigate Kenya's complicated and changing regulatory environment. The practice takes a cross-sectoral approach, drawing on the firm's depth across financial services, technology, corporate law, environmental regulation, and employment to deliver integrated, practical, and aligned compliance advice tailored to each client's day-to-day realities.

Our capabilities include:

  • Legal audits, which provide an independent assessment of a client’s legal compliance across operations, contracts, and governance
  • Corporate governance advisory, including board procedures, directors’ duties, and governance arrangements for regulated entities
  • Sector regulatory compliance across financial services, technology, environmental, and employment law
  • Anti-money laundering and financial crime compliance, including AML policies, customer due diligence, and regulatory engagement
  • Regulatory engagement and licensing, including licence applications and management of regulatory enquiries
  • Policy and legislative compliance, including impact assessments and compliance roadmaps for new regulatory requirements

Select Experience

The practice has advised on a financial inclusion and AML compliance structure arising from the Refugees Act 2021, regulatory advisory mandates for the Central Bank of Kenya, the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority, and the Competition Authority of Kenya, and data protection compliance frameworks for corporate clients across sectors under the Data Protection Act 2019.
